Flaming Mountains: The Extreme of the Earth in Journey to the West

The Flaming Mountains, named for their crimson rocks that resemble blazing flames under the sunlight, form a magnificent natural landscape in the Turpan Basin of Xinjiang. Renowned for once recording a ground surface temperature of 89°C, they are also the legendary setting in the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, where Sun Wukong borrowed the plantain fan three times. Within the scenic area, statues of the four pilgrims stand tall, and a giant thermometer symbolizes its status as "China's Hot Pole," seamlessly blending myth with the reality of an extreme heat destination.
