When you think of Bali, you think of beach resorts🏝️
So the first things that come to mind are
marine sports or beach clubs⛱️
I had that kind of active image.
However, here in Ubud,
there are actually many spots
where indoor types can enjoy themselves more🌿
1. Sun Sun Warung
Let’s start with the food🍽️
Their specialty is "Nasi Campur,"
a plate with rice and side dishes,
a kind of set meal famous in Bali.
By the way, "Warung" means a small eatery.
There are many places with "Warung" in their name around Ubud.
A set with a drink and dessert costs about 1000 yen.
I recommend sitting on the veranda-like seats.
You’ll be soothed by the lush green garden.
The seasoning is also mild and easy for Japanese tastes.
2. Babi Guling Gung Cung
For those who want a hearty meal, try Babi Guling.
Babi Guling is a famous Balinese dish.
It’s a spicy Balinese-style pork bowl🐷
using every part of the pig without waste.
You can eat here for about 500 yen.
Drinks are under 100 yen!
The atmosphere is very local.
Babi Guling is quite spicy, so if you don’t like spicy food, be careful⚠️
3. Sweet Orange Walk Trail
After a good meal,
take a stroll along the rice field paths.
"Jalan-jalan" means "walk" in Indonesian.
Wander along narrow paths where cars can’t pass.
You can see locals farming,
and occasionally a small café appears.
The endless greenery is very soothing☘️
4. Karsa Spa
When you get tired, take a break at a spa.
Karsa Spa is quite famous in Ubud.
It’s not a luxury spa but a town spa,
so you can experience authentic spa treatments at reasonable prices.
I tried the Balinese massage and body scrub course
with an added spice bath.
The bright red bath was surprising,
filled with roots and leaves of some kind.
The temperature was lukewarm but gradually warmed me up,
and I felt the power of the spices.
During bath time, they served fruit and sweet tea🥭
It’s a popular place, so I recommend making a reservation.
Since it’s away from the center, you can also ask for pick-up when booking🙆♀️
5. Clear Cafe
Back in downtown Ubud,
while strolling or shopping at craft shops,
you might get hot and tired,
or suddenly caught in a downpour.
At times like that, take a break at a café☕️
This is my recommended café.
It’s rare overseas to take off your shoes before entering.
There are sofa seats and even tatami mat seating.
It’s open-air with good ventilation,
a wonderful space mixing Western and Balinese styles.
They also have Wi-Fi, so it’s good for a little work.
Besides these, there are cooking classes, yoga,
craft shop hopping, searching for Balinese cosmetics, and more.
Ubud is a place indoor types can truly enjoy,
so please give it a try☺️
The rainy season is often avoided, but with indoor plans,
I’m sure you can have a great time!
