Uchikomachi Kamiyoshiga Residence

The Kamikaze residence consists of 10 buildings in total, including the main building, annex buildings, and a warehouse used by the family in the late Edo period. All buildings are important cultural properties.

My family is a wax manufacturer. Therefore, the wood wax production facilities of that time, including kilns, can be seen in the mansion.

The house has now been converted into a wood wax museum and exhibition hall, which uses models and videos to explain the production process of wood wax in an easy-to-understand way. In addition, many wax figure making tools from Uchiko and its surrounding areas are also on display to let everyone understand the traditional wax making skills. These tools are listed as important tangible folk cultural properties.
