Mizumi Station (Mizumi-eki), located in Mizumi-cho, Uki City, Kumamoto Prefecture, is the terminus of the JR Kyushu Mizumi Line. Since its establishment in 1899, it has served as a vital transportation hub connecting mainland Japan with the Amakusa Islands. This wooden station, boasting over 120 years of history, boasts high ceilings and a nostalgic atmosphere, and still retains the architectural style of its 1903 relocation to its current location.
In the early days, Mizumi Station was relocated from its original location to reclaimed land to the south to facilitate ferry connections to Amakusa. With the opening of ferry routes and the sightseeing train "A-train de Xing Kou," Mizumi-eki has become a popular starting point for exploring Amakusa. Inside the station, there's a "green window" where you can purchase tickets and reserved seats. There's also a tourist information center offering travel information (no lockers available), and visitors can get a special station stamp as a souvenir.
The platform has one side, one line, and a siding. Despite being a small station, it has daily night trains waiting for them, making it a rare portside terminal station still in operation. The station is within walking distance of the East Port area of Sankaku Port and the distinctive "Sea Pyramid" building, making for a smooth tourist route.
