Umugi is a popular restaurant located in the underground food hall of Osaka Umeda Station, in the basement level of Sanbangai. It’s a spot frequented by locals, and I went right when it opened, but even in the morning there was quite a long wait.

The interior isn’t very spacious, but there are many seats, so the turnover is fast. I ordered udon with fried tofu pouches, and it was delicious with generous ingredients and chewy noodles. The seasoning is a bit strong, but it’s a great place to visit when you’re craving a warm soup dish.
