Gangchuan Foreigner Area

#September2025
Walking into Okinawa's Minatogawa Outer District feels like stepping into another world. Formerly a US military barracks, it's now a collection of low, whitewashed buildings, each housing unique shops. The neighborhood exudes a retro, hipster vibe. While the alleys may be small, there's a surprise around every corner.

I particularly love the dessert shops and cafes there, like the one that serves fruit tarts, whose warm aroma complements a latte perfectly. There are also small shops selling pottery and handmade goods, each piece imbued with a rich Okinawan charm, making it tempting to take home a souvenir.

Wandering around, you can take your time selecting your favorite souvenirs or simply find a spot to relax. Compared to the bustling Kokusai-dori, Minatogawa Outer District offers a quieter atmosphere, perfect for slowing down and savoring the warmth of life. For me, it's a little paradise that offers a glimpse into a different side of Okinawa.
