This Japanese-style hot spring resort, which opened in 1995, has only 20 rooms. It is hidden among the lush green Mount Shiiba and the tranquil terraced rice paddies. The indoor cypress bathtubs are filled with local Ureshino Onsen water. Each room offers picturesque views from the window. The overall design is simple and cozy. In 2019, this accommodation was awarded four stars by the Michelin Guide.
At Shiibayama Onsen, you can enjoy the fresh, natural greenery of the Ureshino tea plantation and admire the beautiful scenery of the rolling hills. From your room, you can not only listen to the murmuring of the nearby stream but also directly appreciate the charming scenery of the four seasons.
Ureshino Onsen is one of Japan's three major hot springs for beautiful skin. In the hot spring town, you can taste the local specialty tea and experience the free footbaths. The open-air bath "Shiiba-no-Yu" is the most rustic bath in the resort. Located in the mountain forest, it offers views of sunlight filtering through the leaves, a murmuring stream, hazy steam, and distant rice paddies—a true paradise.
The resort's restaurant offers highly anticipated Kyoto-style kaiseki cuisine. In addition, it features the famous Saga beef, nearby mountain delicacies, seasonal vegetables, and carefully selected fresh fish from the nearby Ariake Sea. The restaurant has an elegant ambiance, with large floor-to-ceiling windows that offer views of the surrounding trees, flowers, nearby tea fields, and distant mountains, blending people and nature into one.
