Shikoku Aquarium is not merely a place to showcase fish; it serves as a transparent window into the depths of the Seto Inland Sea. The water scenery here is not simply an artificial assembly but incorporates the natural flow of the sea, interplay of light and shadow, and the breathing rhythm of space. Visitors feel as though they are not separated by glass but are truly immersed beneath the waves. The most captivating feature is the large tank simulating a sunset seascape, where light gently cascades, tinting the silhouettes of the fish in a warm amber hue, making one feel as if they are floating on the sea at dusk.
What sets Shikoku Aquarium apart is its integration of "time" into its exhibits. At different times of the day, the interplay of light and water creates entirely distinct atmospheres—morning's clarity, midday's brilliance, evening's warmth, and even the tranquil blue tones of night. This thoughtful design conveys that the ocean is not a static specimen but a living entity breathing in harmony with the earth and sky. Upon leaving the aquarium, one feels as though their heart has been touched by the tides, carrying a deeper sense of tranquility and reverence.
