Henan Institute of Science and Technology is a provincial-level undergraduate institution. Founded in 1939, the university originated from the Biology Department of the Yan'an Academy of Natural Sciences, a university founded by the early Chinese Communist Party. It has since evolved through various stages, including the Agricultural College of North China University, the Agricultural College of North China University, the Changzhi Branch of the Agricultural College of North China University, the Changzhi Branch of Beijing Agricultural University, Pingyuan Agricultural College, Baiquan Agricultural College, and Henan Vocational and Technical Normal College. In May 2004, with approval from the Ministry of Education, the university was renamed Henan Institute of Science and Technology.
Located in Xinxiang, Henan Province, a National Civilized City and National Sanitary City, the university covers an area of 2,176 mu (approximately 1,000 acres) and has a campus area of 620,000 square meters. Over the past 80 years, the university has expanded its academic disciplines to include nine major disciplines: agriculture, engineering, science, management, education, literature, economics, law, and art. It boasts 21 academic colleges, 66 undergraduate majors, and a cooperatively run independent college, the New College of Science. The university has a full-time enrollment of 27,782 students. The library houses a collection of 2.98 million volumes and titles, including over 1,500 Chinese and foreign periodicals.
The university fully implements its "Quality-Based School" strategy, focusing on cultivating innovative, practical, and highly skilled applied professionals. Guided by social needs, the university continuously innovates its talent development model, accelerates the development of programs, curriculum, and teaching teams, and actively promotes student-centered, output-oriented educational and teaching reforms, steadily improving the quality of its talent development. Since 2001, the university has won three national teaching achievement awards and over 50 provincial teaching achievement awards. In the past three years, students have received over 200 awards at or above the national level in competitions such as the National Blue Bridge Cup Software and Information Technology Professional Talent Competition, the National Undergraduate Mathematical Modeling Competition, the National Robotics Competition, the National "Internet Plus" Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and the National "Challenge Cup" Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic and Scientific Works Competition.
