[Wakkanai, the northernmost city] ⛴️ A trip to enjoy spectacular views, gourmet food, and nature ✨

I went to Wakkanai, Japan's northernmost city! 🚃✨

My first stop was Cape Soya. The view of the northernmost point of Japan and the expansive ocean is truly one of a kind! On clear days, you can even see Rishiri-Fuji.

My first stop was Cape Soya. The view of the northernmost point of Japan and the expansive Sea of Okhotsk is truly a sight you won't find anywhere else. On clear days, you can even see Sakhalin, and I was thrilled by the special feeling. 🌊✨

In the city, I also recommend the Wakkanai Port North Breakwater Dome. Its unique shape, with its succession of semicircular arches, is reminiscent of ancient ruins and a popular photo spot. 📸

I visited at the end of August. While it was a little hot during the day when the sun came out, the air was cool and refreshing, making it a very comfortable place to escape the heat. ☀️🍃

The highlight of the trip, of course, was the food! This time, I tried Wakkanai's specialty, Octopus Shabu-Shabu. 🐙 The thinly sliced octopus was quickly dipped in broth, revealing a plump texture and delicious flavor that filled my mouth. The piping hot shabu-shabu was exceptional in the cool air.

Combining buses and rental cars makes for an efficient trip. Recommended for those who want to enjoy both sightseeing and gourmet food!
Wakkanai Station is famous as the northernmost JR station in Japan, with many hotels and restaurants conveniently located around the station. It's also a great gateway to remote island trips, with ferries to Rebun Island and Rishiri Island.
