The Summer Palace: The Emperor's Secondary Political Center

Emperor Kangxi established the Summer Palace with the purpose of conducting the "Mulan Autumn Hunts" (known as "哨鹿" in Manchu, meaning deer hunting). As a result, the Summer Palace became a crucial hub between the Qing central government and various tribes, serving as a secondary political center beyond the Forbidden City.
