📍An hour drive south of the town of Wenchuan or 2 hours Northwest of Chengdu, the town of Yingxiu, holds the ruins of a school building that collapsed as result of the Magnitude 8 earthquake that shook the country in 2008. the memorial plaque in front of the school, displays the time of the earthquake 2:28 pm. It is a place to visit to remind us of the power of nature of how defenseless we are to it's will. An emotional scene, we must remember this is a burial site for some, mostly middle school children and where their families go to pay their respects, we must treat it with the respect it deserves.📜 Do take the time to look at the pictures outside and read about the efforts of he rescue teams, some who perished in the subsequent landslides and aftershocks. A story of humanity, team effort and community spirit at a very difficult time.
There is carpark available across the road from the memorial, you must then cross the pedestrian bridge to access it. Buses run from Wenchuan or Chengdu every day.
There is no admission fee, but outside the memorial you can pay to access an earthquake simulator that will give you an idea of he intensity of the seismic movement that day. #roadtrip #memorial #chinatravel #sichuan #china
