The most sentimental attraction in Wenchuan, still heavy after 16 years.

What we can see now is the earthquake site of Xuankou Middle School, which is one of the few buildings that were not completely destroyed during the earthquake that year, so that we can more intuitively feel the horror of the earthquake.

When you walk in, the first thing you see is the huge clock statue at the school gate and the broken teaching building. The time on the stone clock is always set at 2:28 pm on May 12, 2008, which is the time when the earthquake occurred that year; behind the stone clock is the original five-story teaching building, now only three floors are left, and the dormitory next to it can only see four floors, and the first floor is completely sunk underground.

All the buildings seen in the old site, the exterior walls are incomplete, exposing twisted steel bars, broken glass and squeezed deformed walls, everything seems to be telling the horror of the earthquake that year, most of the interpreters in the scenic area have personally experienced the earthquake that year, without deliberate sensationalism, the real interpretation has made everyone feel particularly heavy.

After watching the earthquake site of Xuankou Middle School, there is also the [Wenchuan Earthquake Yingxiu Epicenter Memorial Hall] next to it, which is worth a special visit. This special exhibition hall, which started construction in 2009 and officially opened to the outside world in 2012, is not only a simple building, but also a deep memory of the victims in the 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake, and a firm belief in the future.

The entire exhibition hall is divided into five major themes. When you walk into the entrance hall, the first thing you see is the timeline, which records the bits and pieces from the earthquake to the present; when you walk into the area of the severe destruction of the earthquake, each photo and exhibit will show the destruction of the earthquake. It is extremely real; when you walk into the area where everyone is united to fight against the earthquake and disaster relief, you see countless volunteers and rescue teams risking their lives, showing the greatness of human nature in the face of disaster; when you walk into the area of self-reliance and scientific reconstruction, you see the motherland through a series of emergency rescue and long-term reconstruction work, so that the ruins are rejuvenated; there is also a 4D earthquake simulation hall, where you can experience the horror of the earthquake.

Back to the county town, you can visit the Xiqiang Cultural Street. This beautiful folk street is built along the river, full of homestays and gourmet restaurants. There are also pavilions and rest areas on the roadside. You can stop for a cup of tea and enjoy the scenery. Feel the beauty of post-disaster reconstruction and calm down.
