Exploring Ancient Culture in Xi’an

Everyone knows the Big Wild Goose Pagoda (大雁塔) as one of Xi’an’s most famous landmarks, but the magic isn’t only in the Tang-era tower. The whole area around it feels like a blend of history and modern city life.
✨ Plaza Life
The vast squares surrounding the pagoda are filled with fountains, sculptures, and shaded walkways. In the evening, locals gather for dancing, kids ride scooters, and tourists wait for the spectacular music fountain show, one of the largest in Asia.
🛕 Temple Vibes
Inside the Da Ci’en Temple, monks chant and incense burns — a quieter, more spiritual atmosphere compared to the busy plazas. The pagoda rising behind the temple roofs makes for the most authentic photos.
📸 Best Angles
• From Da Ci’en Temple grounds: frame the pagoda behind incense burners and temple halls.
• From the north plaza fountains: capture the reflection of the pagoda in the water at sunset.
• From the nearby shopping mall terrace: a modern wide shot with the plaza lights.
💡 Tips
• Buy the temple ticket instead of climbing the pagoda — the views inside are narrow, while the grounds offer far better backdrops.
• Time your visit to enjoy both the daytime calm and the night fountain show.
• Metro: Line 3 or 4 → Dayanta Station (大雁塔站), a short walk to the plaza.
