We arrived at Hulishan Fortress as the sea breeze threaded through the old stone walls, carrying the sharp scent of salt and rusted iron 🌊🧱⚓. The fortress stood weathered but certain, its grey bricks rough beneath our hands, the heavy cannons resting in place like relics still keeping watch. The Krupp gun sat immense and still, its barrel aimed at the horizon where the sea met the sky in a faint blur. Standing there, it felt less like a monument and more like a memory holding its ground 🎯🌥️.
We walked along the ramparts where the view opened wide, Gulangyu shimmering across the water and the city stretching quietly inland 🌉🏙️. The sound of waves reached us in soft intervals, filling the silence between scattered footsteps and shutter clicks 📸🚶♀️. There was a weight here that wasn’t just in the stone but in the air itself. Hulishan Fortress didn’t try to tell its history it let the wind and the sea carry it forward, steady and unspoken 🌬️📜.
