My visit to the Xiamen Museum was highlighted by the incredible Fujian-Taiwan Kinship exhibition. This isn't just a display of artifacts; it's a powerful and moving narrative about the inseparable bond between the people of Fujian and Taiwan.
From the moment I stepped in, the exhibition guided me on a chronological and thematic journey. It brilliantly illustrates how, throughout centuries, migration across the Taiwan Strait shaped both cultures. The displays on folk traditions, language, and religion were particularly striking. Seeing the parallel rituals for Mazu, the sea goddess, and the The museum uses a fantastic mix of life-sized dioramas, historical documents, maps, and multimedia presentations. One section that stood out was the detailed explanation of family genealogies, showing how many Taiwanese can trace their roots back to specific clans in Fujian. The replica of a traditional Minnan (Southern Fujian) street, complete with a mock-up of an old-style house, made the history feel tangible and real.
Who should visit? Absolutely everyone! Whether you're a history buff, a cultural enthusiast, or tourist wanting to understand the region's soul, this exhibit is must-see.
