Located within Pudian Village, Shawo Town, Xin County in southern Henan, Songchong sits 1 kilometer east of National Highway 106. Nestled among mountains on three sides with only a single path for access, this secluded village enjoys a picturesque setting by the hills and waters. Established during the mid-Qing Dynasty (approximately 200 years ago), it is said to have been built by a local wealthy merchant. The dwellings feature brick-and-wood structures, originally three stories high, including three grand gatehouses and five or six courtyard houses with skylights. The eaves' carved figures may depict scenes from "Dream of the Red Chamber." Blending the rugged northern style with the delicate Huizhou aesthetic, the well-preserved ancient architecture showcases traditional residential art of southern Henan. Recognized as part of the fifth batch of China's Traditional Villages.
