Ya'an: Hidden Gem in Sichuan

While most people think of Chengdu when planning a trip to Sichuan province, there is a hidden gem just one hour South of the city! Ya'an is a small city packed with cultural sites, natural treasures, and historic importance.
Head to Chengdu West station to catch a high speed train to Ya'an and arrive at the train station. From there you'll want to go to the Bifengxia Panda Center! It is a joint project with the Chengdu Panda Base but is far less busy than the one in Chengdu.
It is located high in the mountains near a raging river that is beautiful by its own right. The drive up is magical and you can enjoy views of the unique foliage here. There is a small village near the Panda center where you can enjoy a meal at one of their homesteads which use only fresh produce grown and raised on the properties.
In Ya'an you can also visit Shangli Ancient Village which shows what Sichuan would have looked like in dynasties past.
