Yakushima Nature Adventure

Travel Purpose
Enjoy a resort experience!
Immerse yourself in the sea and nature!
Go trekking!

Schedule
Day 1
Fly to Yakushima Airport. While you can also travel by ferry, flying is more convenient. Rent a car at the airport for easy transportation. Stop by a trekking rental shop along the way to ensure you have all the necessary gear. Visit a local supermarket before heading to Sankanahotel. This resort-style hotel features an impressive pool that feels like you're abroad. Located on a mountain plateau, it offers stunning views of both the sea and mountains.

Day 2
Set out for a trekking adventure. Purchase a packed lunch on the way. Follow the Jomon Cedar Course and take a heart-shaped photo at Wilson's Stump, located about three hours from the Arakawa Trailhead. The round trip takes six hours. Even if you don't make it to Jomon Cedar, there are plenty of cedar trees to enjoy along the trail. Trekking is especially pleasant in good weather, but it's highly recommended to prepare proper gear.

Day 3
Visit Shiratani Unsuikyo Ravine and head towards the Mossy Forest. Purchase a packed lunch on the way. The Taiko Rock Course takes about three hours round trip. Afterward, return your trekking gear and enjoy a scenic drive along the coast. The sea is beautiful and soothing, even if you don't swim. Return the rental car at Yakushima Airport before flying back home.

Important Notes
Ensure you have at least the minimum trekking gear. Rental shops are available, offering waterproof raincoats, backpacks, and other rain protection essentials. Pay attention to the weather.

Hotel
Sankanahotel is truly a wonderful place to stay. It offers shuttle services, so if you plan to stay in, you can manage without a rental car. However, keep in mind that there’s not much around the hotel. The bread is particularly delicious, and the meals feature local Yakushima ingredients.

Transportation
While Yakushima can be reached by ferry, flights are more frequent and convenient. Although buses are available on the island, they are not very frequent, so renting a car is recommended. Alternatively, joining a tour is a good option.

Scenic Spots
Yakushima is rich in natural beauty, with stunning seas and lush greenery. While driving, you might even spot monkey families along the way.
