I stopped by for a break during a drive.

Inside, I was greeted by a wide selection of fresh local vegetables, fruits, and ingredients.

The souvenir section was packed with processed goods and local specialties unique to Zao, a selection that truly captured the charm of the region. I bought some local sake, which I'd been eyeing. I was looking forward to drinking it after returning from my trip, so it felt more like a treat for myself than a souvenir.

There was also a stylish sweets shop, and being able to enjoy a sweet break like this mid-trip was a wonderful way to refresh both body and mind. 🍰☕️

With a spacious parking lot and rest area outside, it was the perfect place to stop by between sightseeing or on a drive.
It was around 2 p.m. on a weekday, so it wasn't crowded, and I was able to relax and enjoy my time, which became a fond memory.

I'm very happy that I was able to unexpectedly experience the charm of Zao on this trip. Experience local flavors and the warmth of the people at Yamagata Zao Roadside Station.
