Shanxi Yangcheng Confucian Temple

Yangcheng Confucian Temple covers an area of approximately 1,640 square meters, with a building area of about 1,126.5 square meters. It is an architectural structure from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The temple was originally built during the Song dynasty and consists of two courtyards, front and rear. Along the central axis are the Lingxing Gate, Pan Pool, Ji Gate, and Dacheng Hall. The east and west wings of the front courtyard serve as the Ming Officials and Local Worthies Shrines, respectively, while the east and west wings of the rear courtyard each have seven bays of corridors. Dacheng Hall is located at the northern end of the temple's central axis, with five bays in width and eight purlins in depth, featuring a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof with yellow glazed tiles trimmed at the edges. The terrace in front of the hall is an important site for holding the Dacheng sacrificial ceremonies. The layout of Yangcheng Confucian Temple is rigorous and its form is regular, embodying the cultural and architectural information of the Ming and Qing periods, and holds significant historical value. It is a nationally protected key cultural relic.
