Hidden high up in the pristine alpine wilderness of Daocheng Yading Nature Reserve, Five-Colored Lake (五色海) and Milk Lake (牛奶海) are nothing short of breathtaking.
💙 Milk Lake sits at an altitude of over 4,500 meters, surrounded by snowy peaks and bathed in a surreal turquoise glow. With its milky blue water against a dramatic mountain backdrop, it looks like a piece of heaven carved into the earth.
🌈 Five-Colored Lake, just a short but steeper climb away, is smaller but equally enchanting. On sunny days, sunlight refracts into the water to create shimmering hues of sapphire, emerald, and gold—earning it the name “Five-Colored.”
🏞️ Both lakes are considered sacred in Tibetan culture, believed to cleanse sins and bring blessings. Though the hike is demanding due to high altitude, the reward is pure serenity and jaw-dropping scenery.
⚠️ Travel Tip:
• Be prepared for altitude sickness—acclimatise well before the hike.
• Start early from Chonggu Monastery or Luorong Pasture.
• Bring layers, sun protection, and plenty of water.
📍 Location: Yading Nature Reserve, Daocheng, Sichuan
🚶♀️Hike from Luorong Grassland (~5–6km), part of the classic Yading trail
📅 Best Time to Visit: May to October (avoid heavy snow season)
