The Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, Myanmar, is a Buddhist holy site with a history of about 2,500 years!
The magnificent pagoda is covered in gold leaf, stands about 100 meters tall, and is topped by a 76-carat diamond. The pagoda is said to house the remains of historical bodhisattvas, including the Buddha, and is an important pilgrimage site for many believers. Visitors are asked to walk barefoot within the grounds, in accordance with Myanmar tradition (it gets very hot in the summer).
The golden appearance of the Shwedagon Pagoda continues to attract visitors day and night. This sacred site is a must-see when visiting Myanmar!
