🗓️Day 1
Heyuan Garden — Xu Family Salt Merchant Residence — Pishi Street
📍Heyuan Garden: Built in the mid-Qing Dynasty, known as the "Number One Garden of Late Qing." It was established by He Zhitao after resigning from office and returning to Yangzhou, who purchased this old site to expand into a garden and built Jixiao Villa (Heyuan Garden). Heyuan Garden features a double corridor, which is rare in other gardens. The entire complex is quite large and can be explored for a long time. Enjoying the lotus pond in the rain is truly delightful.
📍Dingjiawan (Xu Family Salt Merchant Residence): Turn left at the exit of Heyuan Garden and walk forward. There are many historical sites here, and with fewer tourists, the area is very quiet, perfect for a leisurely stroll.
📍Pishi Street: The street is especially lively at night, with many small shops and great photo opportunities. Compared to Guandong Street and Caiyi Street, I prefer this street; it feels more artistic.
🍴Dachao Huai (opposite Heyuan Garden): If you’re new to Yangzhou, try Yangzhou fried rice, crab roe lion’s head meatballs, and crab roe dried tofu strips — all classics. I prefer soup over dishes; it’s very fresh. Check in on the app and get a free trendy yogurt!
🍴Li Niangniang Rice Noodles: Shrimp hotpot rice noodles, jasmine soy milk.
.
🗓️Day 2
Changle Inn (Dim Sum) — Ge Garden — Guandong Street — Slender West Lake — Caiyi Street
📍Changle Inn: The environment is very comfortable, and the dim sum offers great value. The buns are excellent! The dried tofu strips and other dishes are also reliable! When I visited, there was a Pingtan performance (8:30). After eating, you can stroll in the backyard, very peaceful. Highly recommended!
📍Ge Garden: Located on Guandong Street. Compared to Heyuan Garden, I prefer Ge Garden; the garden environment is more beautiful and comfortable. I have to admire the ancient people’s aesthetics and skills in garden construction.
📍Slender West Lake: Much larger than I imagined! I recommend reserving a whole day to explore. When you reach the Twenty-Four Bridge, you can take a sightseeing bus further inside. The bonsai garden and huge lotus pond are inside, and with fewer people, the experience is even better! I love the black swans at Slender West Lake!
🍴Da Mao Huaiyang Cuisine: An old local restaurant. I recommend their signature dish, pork intestines; I really like the tofu inside. The kidney flower is also cooked without any unpleasant smell. If you like it, give it a try.
