In the center of Yerevan, between France Square and the Monument district, stands a huge staircase. It ascends a hill, connecting two parts of the city. This is the Cascade—Yerevan's main architectural symbol and its observation deck.
From below, the Cascade looks like a white stone amphitheater. At the top, there's a garden, fountains, and sculptures. As you climb the steps, the city gradually unfolds: rooftops, a theater dome, greenery, and, if the weather is good, Mount Ararat veiled in a light haze.
📍 Location: Center of Yerevan, between Tamanyan and Leonidas Streets.
🕐 When to go: Spring and fall—not too hot, clear skies, soft light.
⸻
How to get there (current as of 2025)
🚶 Walking distance:
From the Opera House—just 5 minutes.
The entrance is open from both sides: you can climb the stairs or use the escalators inside the building (admission is free).
🚗 By car:
Parking is available at the lower landing, next to France Square.
⸻
What to see:
— Sculptures by Gerald Cafesjian, from Botero's cats to abstractions by contemporary artists.
— Fountains and terraces, each with its own rhythm and view.
— The Museum of Contemporary Art (Cafesjian Art Center) inside the Cascade.
— The observation deck at the top—all of Yerevan beneath your feet, and Mount Ararat beyond.
