Yixian Wanfo Temple Grottoes

Yixian Wanfo Temple Grottoes in Jinzhou are located on the north bank of the Daling River, 9 km northwest of Yixian County, Liaoning Province. As of 2015, they are the earliest and largest grottoes in Northeast China, and the northernmost and easternmost grottoes of the Northern Dynasties in China. The Wanfo Temple Grottoes were built during the Northern Wei Dynasty. Due to natural weathering and disrepair, most of the grottoes have collapsed and no longer exist. They are known as a treasure trove of stone carving art in northern China and were designated as a national key cultural relic protection unit in 1988.
