I've been to Jingtu Temple four times and finally figured it out.

Here are some tips for visiting Jingtu Temple in Ying County, Shanxi:

Preliminary Understanding

• Opening hours: 8:00–17:30.

• Ticket information: 15 CNY/person.

Visiting Route

• Hall of Heavenly Kings: The first thing you see when you enter the temple is the Hall of Heavenly Kings. Generally, the hall enshrines statues of Maitreya Buddha and the Four Heavenly Kings. You can feel the solemn atmosphere of the temple here.

• Mahavira Hall: A Jin Dynasty building, simple and magnificent. Inside the hall, there are Qing Dynasty murals depicting Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and more. Focus on appreciating the caisson ceiling of the Heavenly Palace attic, which Liang Sicheng called a "national treasure."

• Side Halls: There are four side halls around the Mahavira Hall, including the east and west side halls, as well as the monk's and layman's offices. All are two-story buildings with roofs made of colorful glazed tiles.

• Liao Dynasty Stone Lions: At the entrance of Jingtu Temple, there is a pair of stone lions from the Liao Dynasty. Their disheveled appearance is rare in the country.

Surrounding Experiences

Jingtu Temple is about a 10-minute walk from the east gate of Yingxian Wooden Pagoda. You can visit them together and also taste Ying County specialties such as Zhao Erniu Liangfen.
