The Verandah, a terrace restaurant in Shadow Bay Gardens, formerly the “Reservoir Hotel” built in 1920, is full of colonial elegance. Once you enter the restaurant, it's like returning to the glitzy era of Hong Kong in the last century: the high-rise roofs, arches, and romantic sea views make you immediately immersed in the splendor of the past.
🍸 Atmosphere and theme
The restaurant uses disco balls and retro decorations to create a stage feel, with a musical theme from the 1970s to the 1990s. Enjoy the food while indulging in the music frenzy of different eras, the lively yet elegant atmosphere is perfect for gatherings with friends or sharing the weekend with the family.
🦞 Seafood and appetizers
The seafood cold plate selection is very rich, with lobster, bacon, mussels, and scallops, all very fresh. The standard of the sashimi area is also good. The appetizers were full of surprises, with lobster crab meat and salmon roe buns with my favorite fillings; Hamachi ceviche and Scallop crudo with fresh ingredients. The most eye-catching is the fried goose liver with red wine sauce, cooked on site by the master, fragrant; and my favorite super rich lobster soup 🤩🤩.
🥩 Main course
There are five choices for the main course, I tried two this time:
**Roasted American Beef Fillet with Aged Port Wine Sauce**: The beef fillet is pink and juicy, perfectly blended with oil and wine, and a bottom layer with French mixed vegetables and smooth mashed potatoes.
**Spiced Pan-fried Golden Herring Fillet**: Crispy skin, tender fish, fresh and not greasy with citrus butter sauce and young asparagus.
Both entrees are excellently done to satisfy both meat eaters and diners who like a bit lighter.
🍰 Dessert section
The dessert area is another highlight with ready-to-fry pan cakes, Portuguese tarts, baked puddings, various cakes and MÖVENPICK ice cream.
🥂 Drinks and extended experiences
For drinks, you can choose from a variety of packages: from fresh juices, soft drinks to cocktails, and champagne. Drinking champagne slowly while looking at the sea view is the most enjoyable time of the weekend! After the meal, you can also visit the Chocolate & Bamboo Bar, where you can sit on comfortable sofa chairs and chat while enjoying chocolate desserts.
