|Kiln Fire Reborn - UCCA Dune Art Museum. Yixing pottery embodies the essence of millennia-old culture. The opening of the UCCA Dune Art Museum in 2024 not only marks the modern transformation of traditional art but also creates a new platform for contemporary pottery to engage in international dialogue.
🌟Highlights:
As a unique work of art, this building blends perfectly with its surroundings. The UCCA Dune Art Museum covers a total area of 2,400 square meters, with a red mountain-like roof and warm handmade pottery bricks. It is the fourth UCCA museum in China, following those in Beijing, Beidaihe, and Shanghai, and is another masterpiece by renowned architect Kengo Kuma in China.
The museum is predominantly dark brown, with an exterior inspired by the famous Shushan Mountains, the birthplace of Chinese purple clay art and a favorite tourist destination of the poet Su Dongpo. The undulating roof resembles a series of lush green mountains.
❤Recommended:
The museum's facade is made of specially crafted pottery panels, which develop delicate textures and rich color layers after high-temperature firing. Under sunlight from different angles, the panels display a variable "kiln color" effect. Even on rainy or cloudy days, standing under the eaves, the entire roof seems to shimmer.
👍Top Recommendation:
Kengo Kuma also designed a visually transparent passageway extending from the museum to the southern riverbank. Walking through it feels like passing through a series of "doors," connecting the square, river, and historical relics in the park into an organic whole.
🛏Facilities:
Inside the museum, the space is flexible and varied, with independent multifunctional halls, lecture halls, conference rooms, an art shop, a café, and a leisure area, offering a diverse range of experiences.
The UCCA Dune Art Museum serves as an important bridge connecting Yixing with the international art world through the medium of pottery. Using pottery as a medium, it connects the world and tells China's story, showcasing the unique charm of Chinese traditional culture to the world. It is a perfect spot for architecture and photography enthusiasts to check in.
