Yogyakarta is the main city of the Special Region of Yogyakarta on the island of Java, Indonesia. It is considered the center of ancient Javanese culture. This city was once the capital during Indonesia's struggle for independence from the Dutch between 1945 and 1949.

What’s even more surprising is that it was originally named "Ayodhya," after the city in the Ramayana epic, before later being renamed Yogyakarta.
