⛪ [Yokosuka] A tranquil exotic experience nestled in a port town──A moment of prayer at Ogawamachi Christian Church 🌿🕊️

📍 [Location] Ogawamachi Christian Church (Ogawamachi, Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture)

🏛 A small church miraculously preserves the history of postwar reconstruction

Ogawamachi Christian Church quietly stands in the heart of Yokosuka, where the sea breeze reaches the streets.
This is a place where you can sense the history of Yokosuka as a port town and the history of Christian missionary work.

🔔 A modern, rectilinear reinforced concrete building with minimal ornamentation
🔔 Soft light filters in through the windows
🔔 Inside, you'll find a tranquil space where time seems to stand still...

🎌 The connection between Yokosuka, a naval town, and Christianity

This church is deeply connected to the religious history of Yokosuka, where a U.S. military base was once located.
Yokosuka Ogawamachi Church was founded in June 1952 (Showa 27) with prayers for the revitalization of war-ravaged Yokosuka. The church officially began operations with a general meeting held by its first pastor, Shunzo Miyauchi, and 22 attendees.

Since then, we have erected a cross in the city center, installed the first pipe organ on the Miura Peninsula, and have continued to this day as a congregation dedicated to praising and worshiping Jesus Christ.

The original church building was a two-story wood-and-mortar structure, but a new reinforced concrete building was constructed in 1984 (Showa 59).

🚶♀️ We recommend combining your visit with sightseeing in the surrounding area!

Ogawamachi Christian Church is close to Verny Park, Dobuita Street, and Yokosuka Arts Theatre, making it the perfect spot for a stroll that combines the exotic atmosphere of a port town with the local flavor.

👟 Walking Route Suggestion:
Keikyu Line "Shioiri Station" or JR Line "Yokosuka Station" → Verny Park → Ogawamachi Christ Church → Dobuita Street → Shopping Mall "Couska"

🌿 More of a "soulful resting spot" than a tourist spot

Just a little way from the bustling tourist area,
you'll find such a quiet and beautiful place.
This is a recommended spot for church lovers, architecture buffs, and travelers looking for a quiet place to stop by.

💬 Review Summary

A stark contrast to the bustle of commercial facilities and the naval port, this place is like another world.
In this small church, where history and prayer flow,
it was a peaceful moment that made me reflect on my journey.
