Wenzhou Yandang Mountain: A Breathtaking Wonderland on Earth

Introduction
Yandang Mountain, located in Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is renowned for its unique landscape and rich cultural heritage. I was fortunate to set foot on this magical land, experiencing the wonders of nature’s craftsmanship and the depth of human history, filling my heart with endless surprise and emotion.
Itinerary
Our journey began from downtown Wenzhou, driving towards Yandang Mountain. Along the way, the scenery outside the car window gradually transitioned from bustling city life to tranquil mountain villages, and then to the endless mountain ranges, calming and heightening our anticipation.
First Impressions of Yandang
Upon arrival at Yandang Mountain, the towering peaks shrouded in mist appeared like a fairyland. We chose to first explore the famous Lingfeng Scenic Area. Lingfeng is known for its strange peaks and bizarre rocks, each seemingly holding its own story and legend. Guided by our tour guide’s explanations, we felt as if we had traveled back to a world of ancient immortals, with every spot filled with mystery and fantasy.
Exploring Lingfeng
Entering Lingfeng, we first arrived at “Guohe Bridge.” This bridge spans between two mountains, and standing on it, surrounded by lush trees and babbling streams, felt like being inside a stunning landscape painting. Moving forward, we reached the famous “Lingfeng Night View.” As night fell, the peaks under the lights became even more mysterious, with every rock seeming to transform into vivid figures of people or animals, leaving us in awe.
The Magnificence of Dalongqiu
On the second day, we visited the Dalongqiu Scenic Area, famous for its spectacular waterfall. Even before getting close, the deafening roar of the water was heard. Standing before the waterfall, a silver water dragon cascaded down a cliff nearly 200 meters high with tremendous momentum, the spray falling like fine rain on us, bringing a refreshing chill and endless amazement.
A Cultural Immersion
Beyond natural scenery, Yandang Mountain holds rich cultural significance. We visited the Yandang Mountain Museum to learn about the geological changes, historical culture, and numerous poems and paintings left by scholars and artists. Especially the legends and stories about Yandang Mountain deepened our respect and longing for this land.
Culinary Experience
Of course, no trip is complete without food! At Yandang Mountain, we tasted local specialties—Yandang Mountain Dendrobium Noodles, Wenzhou Fish Balls, and a variety of seafood. Every dish was delicious and unforgettable.
Conclusion
Though our two-day trip to Yandang Mountain was brief, the memories are eternal. The mountains, the waters, the people, and the stories here are deeply imprinted in my heart. Yandang Mountain is not only a treasure trove of natural beauty but also a rich book of history and culture. Best Time to Visit
- Spring and Autumn (April to June, September to November): Pleasant climate, blooming flowers or colorful autumn foliage, ideal for hiking.
- Summer (July to August): Waterfalls are full and spectacular, perfect for escaping the heat, but watch out for mosquitoes.
- Winter (December to February): Fewer visitors and peaceful, occasional snow scenes, but some attractions may be closed.
Must-See Attractions
- Lingfeng Scenic Area: Beautiful by day and even more stunning at night, with peaks and rocks silhouetted under moonlight, such as “Husband and Wife Peaks” and “Rhino Gazing at the Moon.” During the day, visit Hezhang Peak and Guanyin Cave; night tours require a guide. Day ticket 50 RMB, night ticket 50 RMB.
- Dalongqiu Scenic Area: One of China’s four famous waterfalls, with a 197-meter drop. Spectacular in the rainy season, delicate like a veil in the dry season. Also see Scissor Peak and high-altitude cable car performances. Ticket 50 RMB.
- Lingyan Scenic Area: One of Yandang’s “Three Wonders,” featuring Xiaolongqiu Waterfall and Wolong Valley Glass Walkway. Don’t miss the Lingyan Flying Crossing performance. Ticket 50 RMB.
- Fangdong Scenic Area: Known for cliffside plank roads and iron chain bridges, offering panoramic views of rural landscapes. Cable car available uphill, walk down. One-way cable car 40 RMB.
- Sanzhe Waterfall: Comprises upper, middle, and lower falls, with the middle fall being the most beautiful. Xu Xiake praised it as surpassing Kuanglu Waterfall and Yandang’s Dalongqiu. The upper fall is difficult to climb; those with average fitness can stop at the middle fall.
Transportation Guide
- External Transport: Take the high-speed train to “Yandangshan Station.” A free shuttle bus from the station takes about 20 minutes to the Visitor Center. For self-driving, navigate to “Yandangshan Visitor Center.” Inside the scenic area, sightseeing buses are required.
- Internal Transport: Green sightseeing buses run between attractions, unlimited rides with a ticket. Taxis are also available, costing about 20-30 RMB per trip.
