We visited Hongshixia (Red Stone Gorge) on a hot summer day, and the contrast between the red cliffs and the cool, shaded pathways made it feel like a natural retreat carved into the heart of the mountains. As we entered the gorge, the towering red rock walls closed in around us, creating a narrow passage where light filtered down in golden shafts. The color of the stone deep, rich, almost glowing was unlike anything we’d seen before, especially when the sun hit it just right.
The path wound alongside a stream, sometimes crossing over it by way of wooden bridges or stone steps. We found ourselves slowing down often not just because of the occasional steep climb, but because the scenery kept changing in subtle ways. Water trickled down mossy rock faces, tiny wildflowers clung to cracks in the stone, and the sound of water echoed softly between the walls. It felt peaceful and powerful at once, like walking through a hidden story written by time and nature.
