A Blossom Surprise: Cherry Flowers in Full Bloom at Blue Moon Valley

Hidden beneath the majestic Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in Lijiang, Blue Moon Valley (蓝月谷) is one of Yunnan’s most photogenic gems. The name alone sounds romantic — and it lives up to the fantasy.
Picture this: turquoise blue water flowing through tiered pools, backed by soaring snow-capped peaks. It looks like something out of a painting. The color of the water? Unreal. It’s naturally blue thanks to white limestone deposits, and on a sunny day, it literally glows under the sky.
Many people come here as part of a day tour to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (I did too!). It’s often included in the package, which is super helpful because tickets to Blue Moon Valley can sell out during peak seasons. Don’t skip it. Honestly, some might even say the valley is prettier than the mountain itself.
You’ll find wooden walkways that let you wander comfortably around the water without ruining your shoes. Some parts are shallow streams, others are peaceful waterfalls cascading into pools. Every corner is camera-worthy — perfect for wedding shoots, couple photos, or just that one pic that makes all your friends ask, “Where is this?!”
🌿 Tips:
• Best time to visit is spring to early autumn, especially on a clear day when the water really shines.
• Bring a light jacket — even in summer, the mountain breeze can be chilly.
• Go earlier in the day to avoid crowds and get that peaceful, untouched look in your photos.
