Wat Phra That Pha Ngao

Located in Sop Kham village, Wiang sub-district, Chiang Saen district, Chiang Rai province, on the west bank of the Mekong River, opposite Laos.

On March 17, 1976, at 2:00 PM, a group of devotees was clearing the area around the temple. Everyone was excited and delighted when they discovered a very beautiful Buddha statue. Experts in antiquities analyzed that this Buddha statue is between 700-1,300 years old. The group then named the statue 'Luang Pho Pha Ngao' and changed the temple's name to 'Wat Phra That Pha Ngao' from that day onwards.

Open daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Free admission.
