The Maokong Gondola offers a 360-degree view of Taipei City. As one of Taipei's must-visit attractions, the Maokong Gondola system spans approximately 4 kilometers and is the first automatic circulating gondola system in Taipei. It allows visitors to enjoy a panoramic view of Taipei without any blind spots. It's recommended to buy a day pass for NT$260, which allows unlimited rides between different stations. 🤓
In addition to the regular cabins, the Maokong Gondola also features crystal cabins, similar to the Ngong Ping 360 in Hong Kong. The fare for the crystal cabins is the same as the regular ones, so if you're not afraid of heights, it's highly recommended to take the crystal cabin! The 360-degree view during the ride offers an even better experience. 😍 However, the queue for the crystal cabins is usually longer, so it's advisable to make a reservation through the Maokong Gondola reservation system. Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled ride and check in to queue in the reserved lane, skipping the regular line. 😆 Reservations open 30 days in advance at midnight. I booked mine two days in advance, and by the afternoon, only slots at 11 AM and late afternoon were available. Plan your trip accordingly.
The Maokong Gondola has four stations: "Taipei Zoo Station," "Taipei Zoo South Station," "Zhinan Temple Station," and "Maokong Station." Each station offers different attractions, making it possible to spend an entire day exploring.
"Taipei Zoo Station" and "Taipei Zoo South Station": Taipei Zoo
"Zhinan Temple Station": Zhinan Temple
"Maokong Station": Zhangshu Trail, Xiao Tiankong Trail, Zhang Nai Miao Tea Master Memorial Hall, Maokong Cafe Alley, etc.
Maokong Station has various restaurants, from Taiwanese snacks to Instagram-worthy cafes. You can first head to Maokong Station to grab a bite and then explore the other stations. This area was once the largest tea-producing region in Taiwan, with many tea gardens and shops selling tea leaves along the way. I couldn't resist buying two cans of tea leaves myself. 😎
