🌈 Yuxi, this hidden gem in the heart of Yunnan, gets its name from its "jade-clear streams." Strolling through the city is incredibly relaxing and comfortable—highly recommended!
🚎🚎🚎 Transportation:
1⃣️ High-speed train: Kunming → Yuxi, 1h/¥38; Kunming South → Yuxi, 37min/¥29.
2⃣️ Self-drive: From Kunming Station, it takes about 70min to reach Yuxi.
🏄🏻♀️ City Walk Route:
1⃣️ Navigate directly to Xiaomiao Street, where most attractions are concentrated. Then visit Wen Temple → Xinxing Road → Beimen Road → Nanmen Road → Nie Er’s Former Residence → Xinxing Market.
2⃣️ Hongta Mountain: The industrial park of Hongta Group. The jacaranda trees outside the park are in full bloom recently, making it a perfect spot for photos. The iconic red tower stands on the opposite mountain.
3⃣️ Qinghua Street: Just a 5-minute walk from Hongta Mountain. This revamped food street is a hotspot, with a weekend morning market. Popular stalls like "Crocodile Bao Bao" and "Hanging Dog Head" are must-tries.
4️⃣ Nie Er Park: A favorite leisure spot for locals. Enjoy the evening breeze and the cool summer air inside the park.
5️⃣ Yuxi Museum: Right next to Nie Er Park. The Prehistoric Culture Exhibition Hall is highly recommended, showcasing detailed fossils of the Chengjiang Biota, evidence of the Cambrian explosion.
6️⃣ Liqi Market: Yuxi’s largest market, a paradise for fresh wild mushrooms, snacks, fruits, and vegetables—guaranteed to leave you loaded with goodies.
7️⃣ Jiulong Pool Park: Absolutely worth a visit! Free entry, take Bus 32 from downtown. The park features ancient trees, exotic flowers, and crystal-clear ponds with lively fish—so refreshing!
🍛 Food:
✔️ Hongji Liang Mixian: My first time trying cold rice noodles—small bowl for ¥9, topped with a big scoop of pea jelly. The noodles are smooth and chewy, with a sweet-and-sour broth. Loved it!
✔️ Master Guo’s Ice Congee: A century-old shop tucked in an unassuming alley. Flavors include rose, blueberry, and peach—sweet but not cloying, icy and delicious.
✔️ Mingji Gasa Eel Rice Noodles: Near Nie Er Music Square, small bowl for ¥14. The eel is thick and meaty, the broth rich and flavorful. Locals swear it’s the best.
✔️ Suihe Restaurant: Great for Chinese cuisine—high value for money, generous portions. Must-try: their signature soy sauce chicken (even the small portion is huge). Currently very popular, so expect queues at peak hours!
