Tianmen Cave is the iconic natural arch near the summit of Tianmen Mountain, and one of the most awe-inspiring sights in Zhangjiajie. It’s often called Heaven’s Gate because of its giant hole in the cliff face—formed naturally and towering over 130 meters high.

How to Get There:
• Ride the bus up the winding 99-bend road (scenic but dizzying!)
• Then take the escalators through the mountain—a series of long, indoor rides that bring you up close to the cave
• Or, climb the legendary 999 steps if you’re up for a serious workout

What to Expect:
• The view looking up at or down from the cave is breathtaking, especially on a clear day
• It’s windy and misty, which adds to the mysterious, otherworldly vibe
• This spot is also where they’ve hosted extreme sports events like wingsuit flying!

Tips:
• Bring a jacket—it’s cooler at that altitude
• Go early to avoid crowds and get the best views
• The climb is steep, but the escalators are a great alternative
