Historical poems on the ancient city wall of Piyun Tower

#MarchGoodPlaces2025

Today I went to visit Piyun Tower in Zhaoqing! 🏰

Piyun Tower is located on the ancient city wall of Duanzhou west of Renmin Middle Road in Duanzhou District. It was built in the third year of Zhenghe in the Northern Song Dynasty (1113 AD). This three-story building was originally built as a lookout tower. It got its name because it stands at the highest point of the western section of the city wall and is often shrouded in clouds and mist. The current Piyun Tower was rebuilt in 1989. Its appearance is modeled after the Tengwang Pavilion in Jiangxi, the Yellow Crane Tower in Hubei and the Feiyun Tower in Shanxi. Its internal structure is a three-story building with reinforced concrete imitation wood structure and through-door arches. The roof is a hip-and-gable cross-ridge structure, covering an area of 300 square meters.

Climb up the Piyun Tower and look out over the city. The scenery inside and outside is breathtaking and refreshing. The second floor displays "The Yongli Emperor of the Southern Ming Dynasty in Zhaoqing." The exhibition on the top floor presents the history and stories of Piyun Tower, allowing people to feel the charm of this ancient building.

The Piyun Tower and the ancient city wall together compose the brilliant history of Zhaoqing, giving me a deeper understanding of Zhaoqing’s cultural and architectural heritage. This visit left me with unforgettable memories and made me love this historic and beautiful land even more. 🌟🏯🌳
