The Zhaoqing Ancient City Wall is located in Duanzhou District, Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province. It was first built during the Huangyou period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1049-1054) and has a history of nearly a thousand years. It is one of the relatively well-preserved Song Dynasty brick city walls in China and has important historical, architectural and military research value. Built in the early Northern Song Dynasty: It was originally a rammed earth wall, and was later expanded and reinforced to resist the Nong Zhigao uprising (1052). Repairs in the Ming and Qing Dynasties: It was reinforced with bricks in the first year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1368), and was repaired many times in the Qing Dynasty.
