Spent the weekend with the kids rushing to Dinghu Mountain in Zhaoqing, and as soon as we entered Butterfly Valley, we were amazed! The lake water is a clear blue-green 🩵, with sunlight sparkling like scattered diamonds. Photos look like they have filters applied, and the kids happily chased butterflies the whole time~ Here’s the latest guide to make your trip with kids smooth and worry-free!
📍Location: Dinghu Mountain Scenic Area, Zhaoqing · Butterfly Valley 🦋
Be sure to take the sightseeing bus after buying tickets at the entrance! It’s a must if you have kids who can’t walk long distances~
🚌 Recommended route: Baoding Garden → Butterfly Valley → Qingyun Temple → Feishuitan
Get off at Butterfly Valley station, then it’s just a 5-minute walk to the dock, super convenient~
🎫 Ticket info:
- Dinghu Mountain Scenic Area ticket: 70 RMB/person (free for kids under 1.2 meters)
- Butterfly Valley boat ride: 35 RMB/person (a must-buy! You need the boat to enter the core lake area)
- Sightseeing bus: 20 RMB/person (essential with kids, saves energy and spares parents)
🏨 Accommodation tips:
Recommended to stay near the scenic area at "Zhaoqing Dinghu Mountain Yuehu Shanshe Homestay," with a charming Chinese style. It’s only a 10-minute walk to the scenic area entrance, very convenient for families with kids~
🌳 Must-visit spots with kids:
1⃣ Butterfly Valley dock boardwalk
The moment you get off the boat, you’ll be stunned by the lake water! It’s best to go before 11 AM or after 3 PM when the sunlight hits at an angle, making the water shimmer emerald green. Hold your child and stand on the stairs to take photos that are full of blue-green hues, perfect for stunning shots~
2⃣ Baoding Garden Wending
Kids love throwing wish balls! The trick is to use a paper note with writing to help aim better. When they make it in, the kids cheer happily, and it’s a great chance to teach them some fun facts about the ding (ancient cauldron)~
💡 Tips for traveling with kids:
- Baoding Garden sells ginger-flavored tofu pudding, smooth and tender. When the kids get tired, sit down and enjoy a warm bowl, super comforting~
- On the way down, visit Qingyun Temple. The red walls with bamboo shadows create a strong ancient vibe, perfect for taking Hanfu photos of your kids~
- If you want to hike, choose the Feishuitan route. The waterfall and streams are very refreshing, but it’s a long walk. Make sure kids wear comfortable sneakers. The sightseeing bus doesn’t go there~
- Important! The last boat leaves at 5:30 PM, and the sightseeing bus at 6:00 PM. Don’t miss the time to head down to avoid walking in the dark with kids~
🚗 Transportation guide:
- By car: 1.5 hours from Guangzhou, parking is 15 RMB/day, 20 RMB/day on weekends and holidays
- By high-speed rail: After arriving at Zhaoqing East Station, take a 25-minute taxi ride. No transfers needed with kids, very hassle-free~
This summer, bring your kids to see the glassy water! The Guangdong version of the Wizard of Oz, light packing and wearing white T-shirts make for great photos. Kids have fun, and parents can relax~
