"Xilin River Mongolian Cuisine": A Taste of the Grasslands 🌄
Since returning to Zhongshan after the pandemic, I haven't been to Fengyuan Commercial Street. Today, driving past the restaurant where I used to frequent for fried ice cream, I discovered it's now a Mongolian restaurant, "Xilin River Mongolian Cuisine." Such a rare find, I decided to try their signature "Mongolian Milk Tea." Made with brick tea, fresh milk, salt, and butter, it boasts a rich, salty flavor. Paired with fried rice, it's a delicious treat that warms the stomach and refreshes the mind.
And the must-try "Traditional Milk Tofu"—11 pounds of fresh milk condensed into just 1 pound of essence. It's rich and chewy when dry, but crispy on the outside and tender on the inside when pan-fried or soaked in milk tea to soften for an even richer milky flavor. The restaurant also offers authentic toppings like milk skin, fried rice, and fruit, allowing for any combination of flavors.
This isn't just a gustatory adventure 👅, but also a cultural experience 📜. From the ancient Tea Horse Road of the Tang Dynasty to modern dining tables, Mongolian cuisine embodies the wisdom and survival philosophy of nomadic peoples. If you're looking for a fresh taste of the grasslands, come and explore!
