Yaojia Chanyue Homestay (Wuxie Branch) Travel Guide
1. Itinerary
Transportation: Primarily by self-driving (approx. 2h drive from Hangzhou/Shanghai). Navigate to the North Gate of Zhuji Wuxie Scenic Area. The homestay entrance has a butler shuttle service.
Core Attractions: The homestay has direct access to Wuxie Chan Temple. Walk 15 minutes to reach the Fifth Wuxie Waterfall (recommended to visit after rain for a more spectacular flow). Nearby, you can explore Xiyuan Grand Canyon and take a boat tour on Wuxie Lake.
2. Accommodation Highlights
Open the window to see the millennium-old temple. Mountain view rooms come with an extra-large terrace, and some room types feature private hot spring pools (book in advance).
Immersive Zen Experience: Sutra copying/morning chanting (reservation required), custom vegetarian meals (seasonal ingredients), and peaceful night tours of the temple.
3. Tips to Avoid Pitfalls
The mountainous area has many mosquitoes; bring repellent. Some mountain paths are steep; wear non-slip shoes.
Not recommended for non-self-driving tourists: Public transportation in the scenic area is infrequent, and taxis are inconvenient.
During peak season, room rates can exceed ¥2800+/night. It's advisable to visit during off-peak seasons (spring and autumn are best) or look for package discounts.
A pure land for Zen, where mountains and waters become a painting. Yaojia boasts an excellent location next to Wuxie Chan Temple, with a Wabi-sabi design that blends natural Zen. The public tea room and sutra copying experience are amazing, and the butler service is meticulous; the in-room amenities are high-end (floor heating + smart toilet), but soundproofing is slightly inferior. The vegetarian meal standard is on the higher side, suitable for those seeking retreat and healing. The cost-performance ratio is subjective.
Suitable for
✓ Zen culture enthusiasts ✓ Mountain hermits ✓ Healing-focused vacationers
✗ Families with children (limited entertainment for kids) ✗ Nightlife lovers ✗ Budget-sensitive individuals
A secluded choice for those willing to pay for Zen, with maximum hidden gem value, but requires a generous budget.
