Yang Dezhi's Former Residence in Lukou, Zhuzhou, Hunan

Yang Dezhi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, general of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and Chief of the General Staff, was one of the founding generals of the People's Republic of China. His former residence is located at the foot of a low hillside in the Aoshang group of Sanwangchong Village, Nanyangqiao Township, in the southern part of Zhuzhou County, with convenient transportation. Yang Dezhi was born here on January 3, 1911. Built in the early Republic of China era, the residence faces southeast and covers an area of 252 square meters. It has an "L"-shaped layout with a civil engineering structure, small black tiles, earthen walls, and a post-and-lintel framework. Originally, it consisted of three bays, with a central hall flanked by main rooms and side chambers. General Yang Dezhi stayed in this house for six days in 1950 and 1957. Due to long-term disrepair, Zhuzhou County carried out a comprehensive restoration in 2010 and added an exhibition room showcasing Comrade Yang Dezhi's life and achievements. It is now open to the public free of charge. This residence is where Yang Dezhi spent his childhood and youth, and where his revolutionary ideals took root. As an important memorial to his life and accomplishments, it holds significant value for studying his revolutionary journey. It has now become a patriotic education base in Hunan Province. In 2011, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit by the Hunan Provincial People's Government.
