Donghai Fishing Village is a uniquely artistic place, with a variety of colorfully painted houses, many of which feature murals depicting fishermen. Bicycles are available for rent, so if you're not in a rush, renting one and just exploring is a pleasant experience. Xiongxiong and I were worried about rain, so we only had a quick look around, but we still managed to take photos of many of the beautiful houses!

In the afternoon, I drove to the Heshangtao Scenic Area and passed by the Donghai Fishing Village. It looked nice and there was a parking lot nearby, so I stopped to take a look.

There is a wooden archway at the entrance of the village, with two huge paintings of fishermen on both sides, in red, white and black, which are quite eye-catching.

There is a large beach here, one of the few in Shengsi that has not yet been enclosed and charged for entry. There are many small boats parked not far away, with red flags on the boats fluttering in the sea breeze. The scene is quite beautiful, but it lacks a bit of blue sky.

There are many food stalls, inns and B&Bs in the fishing village, but it is not very popular during the off-season.

When you come to Donghai Fishing Village, the most eye-catching thing is the hand-painted paintings of fishermen on the walls. The colors are rich and bright, the style is abstract and exaggerated, and it is full of fishing characteristics. It is also the most realistic portrayal of the local fishermen's life accompanied by the sea.

There is a large fishing boat-shaped decoration in the square in the middle of the village. Fishermen have lived on boats and the sea for many years. In the minds of local people, fishing boats are far more than just a simple means of transportation and livelihood. They also have the symbolic meaning of totem symbols.

I didn't stay at the Jihu area, but the Donghai Fishing Village area has beautiful scenery, entertainment, and beaches, and most importantly, it's free. The transportation is relatively far, but it's still convenient to get to various scenic spots.

Donghai Fishing Village was originally called Tianao Village. It is also called Donghai Five Cinque Territory.

Donghai Fishing Village got its name from the murals on the walls of every household in the village. There is also a small beach next to the village where you can go for a walk. There are not many people there, but you cannot swim.

Because I followed the organization, I only knew that I was going to Shengsi, and didn't pay attention to where specifically I went. Now I have a deep impression that I have definitely been to the place where Jianzhen crossed the sea to the east. From this, I concluded that I went to Tianao Village in Wulong Township, Shengsi County, Zhoushan City, also known as the East China Sea Fishing Village. The village is one of the earliest places where the "Fisherman's Home" characteristic tourism project in China emerged.

It was raining moderately and the seaside was even more humid. The so-called "fisherman's house" was where we stayed in the extra houses built by the fishermen. Some people might like this kind of home-style leisure vacation, but I don't agree. I always felt that the sanitary conditions were not good enough and it was very noisy. After all, we only stayed for two nights.

Most of the time is spent on free activities, and some people like to get together to play cards, smoke and drink.

We ate and slept at a fisherman's house. The seafood was cooked to its original flavor, but it was ultimately too bland. However, our braised pork and potatoes were a huge hit, earning us some "ridicule" from our supervisor. Unfortunately, posting food photos wasn't popular back then, so I didn't take any photos.

The main purpose of Donghai Fishing Village is to see the murals and the sea. There is nothing else to do. Basically, an hour is enough. The murals at the entrance of the village are quite beautiful, suitable for taking some artistic photos, haha.

A graffiti fishing village, it has its own characteristics, but needs to be managed, it would be more refreshing and natural.

I recommend staying here for those who want to watch the sunrise. It's close to the sunrise spot, the village has a free beach, and the village itself is a tourist attraction. I suggest you avoid eating at the restaurants along the coast of Donghai Fishing Village. They are a complete rip-off and not very tasty.

By pancakes |

I don't understand what's special here.

A village, a group of restaurants, a small beach, and facing some unknown water that flows out from the village above.

By Herbal Jelly |

In fact, this place has obviously become a little commercialized. The village is not big, but it is full of homestays, and there are also many small shops and stalls at the entrance of the village.

The village's hallmark is its charming murals. I've heard that fishermen used to paint murals when they weren't fishing. Their artistic talents are truly remarkable! Why don't I have such talent? These vibrant murals are a record of their fishing and salvaging lives. Every painting is connected to the sea.

I don't know how many times I've been to Shengsi Island. Donghai Fishing Village is my most popular leisure destination. I remember the first time, there were more than a dozen farmhouses in the entire fishing village, and forty or fifty tourists. It's different now, and it's more mature in all aspects. There are beaches (free), barbecues, seafood, and fishing houses. It's a good place to enjoy the sea and experience life. Dabei Temple is also worth a visit, just on the mountain... The picture shows the fishing house I went to on June 1st. Nanpu Bridge → Shenjiawan Wharf, three days and two nights of accommodation, five meals and two breakfasts, the total cost is 1,100 yuan/person

By Miss Moe |

There are many fishing houses here.

Every year in March, when seafood is at its most abundant, it is a real treat to come here.

After May Day, fishing is banned. Plus, it's peak season, so seafood prices are higher. You'll see seafood stalls everywhere along the road.

Back to the point, the price of sharing a boat in the fishing village is 100 per person, and if you share a boat, the seafood is divided equally among everyone; on our day, no one shared a boat, so four of us paid 500 for a boat, and all the fish, shrimps, and crabs we caught were ours, hahaha

ps: Remember to bring a plastic bag or bucket, otherwise it will cost you 20 yuan to buy a plastic bucket there. But this time our omnipotent driver helped us out again~

Fishing is indeed a matter of luck. For example, we were lucky that day.

The ancient Donghai Fishing Village. Its name evokes a legend. Backed by mountains and facing the sea, it boasts a low, flat valley with fertile land, interspersed with rows of ponds. Houses are built around the fields, and fishermen live by the sea. This tranquility and seclusion are its true allure. Winding along the coastal highway, forgetting the distance, you'll find this idyllic paradise nestled between mountains and sea. Boats, nets, and crab pots silently tell of generations of fishing sustenance. The deeper you go, the more you discover the unique charm of this small fishing village: not only flowers and fruits, but also beautiful windows and elegantly designed walls. The most eye-catching feature is undoubtedly the paintings of fishermen on the facades, symbolizing the ancient totems of the fishing community. Tired of the hustle and bustle of the big city? Why not spend a few days in Donghai Fishing Village, savoring delicious home-cooked meals, drifting to sleep to the sound of the waves, and waking to the wisps of white mist curling across the lotus ponds and fields?

There's a delicious barbecue street just off the beach, where the wives of fishermen are natural seafood chefs, creating authentic, unforgettable dishes. You can climb the stone tablets and visit the Dabeishan Temple, where the morning bells and evening drums ring, to pay tribute to the gods. You can also chase the waves on the beach, fish from a small leaf boat, and experience the life of a seafarer. The stunning ocean views, combined with the fun of fishing, will delight you with the fascinating shells and tiny sand crabs. You can also stop at the spot where Jianzhen docked his ship on his eastern crossing, searching for traces left by his predecessors. The so-called "empty mind" is to wander along the Left Bank Highway, stopping and wandering, stripped of commercialization, to experience the pristine nature that truly lives its heart. The 2018 Shengsi Island Travel Guide (including transportation, accommodation, attractions, and more) is now available. + WeChat account: Xixi Loves to Eat Fish. Reply to "Shengsi" to bookmark it. Super gorgeous! Highly recommended!

We live in a folk house in Donghai Fishing Village. There is a beach in front of Donghai Fishing Village. It is free and not too crowded. It feels no worse than Jihu Beach.

Although it is called a fishing village, seafood is not very cheap. It is cost-effective to join the fishing village tour. Travelers who stay in the same inn have a good harvest. The scenery is not bad.

By Tracy |

I like Donghai Fishing Village very much. It is the purest and most authentic life of fishermen by the sea.

By Smile |

There are places to stay here. There are many tourists during the peak season, so you should book a room early.

There is a seafood stall on the beach at night. You can enjoy the sea breeze and eat seafood. The taste is pretty good.

By Ink Spinning |

This is a colorful little fishing village with a strong cultural atmosphere, which is worth a visit. Of course, it would be perfect if you go fishing.

The seafood here is a bit expensive.

By Young Master Xiaobai |

Although it's called a fishing village, it's essentially become a gathering place for farmhouses. Aside from a few souvenir shops and stalls right at the entrance, there's little to see. A full walk around the village takes about 20 to 30 minutes. There's a model of a small boat in the center of the village. Since we went at sunset, taking photos in front of the boat looked like a photo. The small beach opposite the fishing village, however, looked nice.

By MINI |

The colorful paintings on the wall are fishermen's paintings, which have become a characteristic of Donghai fishing village today.

Walking into Donghai Fishing Village, you will see beautiful paintings of fishermen on the walls on both sides of the road.

By Wintan |

The accommodation is mainly in the cabins in Donghai Fishing Village. I didn’t go around much nearby, but there are many graffiti walls suitable for taking photos.

The road is being repaired recently, and the asphalt is being paved halfway up the mountain, which is a bit sticky in the summer.

By Yuan Pangpang |

There are a lot of seafood hahaha, it feels like all fishing villages are similar, the sea breeze is salty

By Diaspora |

This is a very unique fishing village. After renovation, you can see that almost every household has opened a homestay on the streets leading into the village, which is a bit like the pedestrian street of Gulangyu Island. The exterior walls are covered with graffiti murals, which are very beautiful. There is a large fishing boat in the square in the middle of the village, which is very lively in the summer. Walking to the beach at the entrance of the village, the fishing village is docked in the harbor, which is a beautiful fishing bay scene. There are many homestays in the village now, and the fishing homestays are also good, but sometimes the transportation is not very convenient.

By Reminiscence of Summer |

The fishing village is full of local character, and I really like the murals on every house. There's a pier at the end of the village, a bit run-down, and I'm not sure if it's abandoned. It's a great place to just chill out, though a bit desolate. There was a typhoon when I went there, so the tour buses weren't running. It was impossible to get to Jihu Village from there, and I was practically crying the whole way.

By Cappuccino |

Having read online reviews about the unique character of Donghai Fishing Village, we took a taxi there the next morning. The moment we disembarked, we were immediately struck by the vibrant, colorful murals. The murals depicted vivid fishing scenes, painted on houses, walls, steps, and even flower pots. Inside, we found thatched pavilions, sculptures, and a large boat, all perfect for photo ops. There's a free small beach at the entrance, but after a short walk, we found the sand to be poor and uninspiring. Further along, a cliffside boardwalk offers views of the waves crashing against the rocks.

By Cherries |

The entrance to the fishing village is bordered by a beach and food stalls. Nearly every household has become a fishing village guesthouse, and each house is covered in paintings depicting fishermen by art students. It's a scene not found on other islands. Because it's an island, fruit isn't plentiful, and ATM withdrawals are difficult. Fortunately, the fishing village guesthouses accept Alipay and WeChat.

By rainbow blue |

I went to Donghai Fishing Village just for the murals, and I wasn't disappointed. The village is very simple and the murals have a sense of life.

By Tiya |

It's a beautiful village, especially in the morning. It's just during the fishing ban period, so seafood is expensive and not fresh. However, it's still a very unique original ecological village with beautiful murals. It's a good place for the family to relax.

By "Little Demon Lady" |

In short, it is a bit inconvenient to travel without a car, and each attraction is too far away

By Jonny |

The hotel is a local's house, but fortunately it is not expensive

By Whispering |

When I went to Shengsi, I stayed here. All the hotels were family-run. There's a beach at the entrance of the village, but the water isn't very clean. The most unique feature is the colorful paintings on the houses, which are quite beautiful. It's a good place to take photos.

By Shui Han |

Maybe it would be more lively in the summer, but when I arrived here in early November, there was nothing to see. There is a free beach, but the B&B we stayed in was not uniformly developed, so it really lacked characteristics. However, I was more impressed by the paintings of local fishermen.

By scared and dizzy |

The fishermen of Wulongtian'ao Village on Sijiao Island express their confidence and passion for life on their walls, creating vibrant, imaginative, ingenious, and unrestrained wall paintings of fishermen. These paintings create a unique tourist attraction embodying island culture, resembling an open-air gallery and a popular attraction for tourists from other regions. Wulongtian'ao Village has also become a base for wall murals at the China Academy of Art's Shengsi Donghai Fishing Village and a base for fishermen paintings in Zhoushan.

By Zhong Midu |

Shengsi was quite crowded during National Day, but friends in Zhejiang can only see the ocean in Zhoushan. Luckily, I haven't been to Sanya yet; seeing the ocean there would be boring. Living in Donghai Fishing Village is convenient for everything, and there's a free beach right outside the village. There are also various murals throughout the village, and it's nice to walk around the village after dinner. The food is quite expensive, though. The inn we stayed in provided meals, and four dishes and a soup cost 200 yuan...

By Facing the sea |

There are many statues reflecting the life of the fishing village on one side of the square, and many creative graffiti walls can be seen around it.

By Climbing |

A small fishing village nestled between the mountains and the sea. The villagers used to make a living by fishing, but now most have switched to tourism, building two- or three-story buildings to accommodate tourists. We stayed at the foot of the mountain, very close to the sea, and basically stayed there for two days, playing in the sand and wading in the sea.

By slimmilk |

Donghai Fishing Village is a popular tourist destination. There's a barbecue stall, but it's quite shady. Seafood is 10 yuan a skewer, and the shrimp are frozen and dead, not fresh. The scallops are good. It's noisy, so I don't like it.

By Fairy's Nest |

Walking on the small streets of the fishing village, you will see unique murals and ceramic jars everywhere, which look very beautiful.

The quiet little fishing village can really calm people down. Although the beach of Donghai Fishing Village is not as big as Jihu Beach and the facilities are not as complete, it is free and not bad.

By cheryl |

It's a beautiful fishing village. Unlike the fishing huts back home, which only have a pure Wenzhou-style commercial atmosphere, Donghai Fishing Village has a deeper heritage. Facing the sea in front and Dabei Mountain in the back, a large, majestic archway stands at the village gate, inscribed with the words "Donghai Fishing Village." Many small fishing boats are moored on the golden beach. There's also a small pier for seafood, and a row of night food stalls in front of the pier. The wooden houses have the word "warehouse" written on the side. Walking around the village, I saw beautiful murals on every wall, full of local characteristics, including pictures of sailing, octopuses, and more. This graffiti reminded me of the South American style depicted by travel expert Maoli. I longed to see the vibrant colors.

By Yifan |

When you're in Shengsi, you absolutely have to visit this fishing village, famous for its murals. After fishing, we took a stroll. There are many fishing village guesthouses there, offering convenient and reasonably priced accommodations. There's a free beach right outside (it's small and lacks shower facilities). The village walls, painted by the Central Academy of Fine Arts, have a unique charm. It's also close to Dabei Mountain and Liujingtan, where you can watch the sunrise.

By Dragon Roar |

Every household in the Donghai fishing village has built a small villa. You can make a reservation in advance and contact the owner when you arrive. He will pick you up at the village entrance. The accommodation is not expensive, and the food is average. If you want to eat better seafood, the price is not cheap. The island is quite humid, and the quilts and clothes will feel slightly wet. There is a free beach behind the village. The sea water is turbid, and the domestic sewage in the village flows here.

By Nansang |

Yes, there is a free big beach at the door. There is also a barbecue at night, which is very convenient. There are also vendors selling small items.

The whole village is painted by students from the Academy of Fine Arts. It looks very beautiful.

In an instant, light and shadow, movement and stillness, suddenly revealed a beauty like an oil painting under the strong yet soft light. After putting down our luggage, we went straight to the free beach in front of the B&B to relax. In the evening, we returned to the B&B, had dinner, and then set off fireworks, released Kongming lanterns, and had barbecue.

The locals are very welcoming. Tourists who can’t fly Kongming lanterns also help each other and lend lighters.

This village can be considered a tourist village. The villagers are all middle-aged and elderly people over 40 years old. Almost every house is a hotel. The houses are very distinctive, similar to what I knew before. I took pictures of them all.

The life of villagers in a fishing village: men fishing and women weaving nets.

The free beach in Donghai Fishing Village is also nice. It has nothing to do with love, let alone romance, but you can experience the atmosphere of life, the atmosphere of life in the fishing village, the reality of having to work hard for a living...

By JoyRider |

A very distinctive feature is the fisherman's painting. Many houses are decorated with colorful fisherman's paintings, which also serve as advertisements for fishing fun. It's quite creative.

By Cambrian |

The road to the village is very quiet, with the mountains at its back and the sea in front. When you close your eyes, you can only hear the wind and birdsong.

Because it's in the mountains, all the roads are sloped, so be prepared for your big toes! Or wear flip-flops... You can see that many walls are made of stone, using local materials! Some of the old houses are unprecedented.

By Miss Sherry |

The islanders have a very regular schedule, with little nightlife. The beach is completely deserted at night, with the lights off in the hotels on either side. Even the barbecue stalls are only a few sparsely populated, and with only a handful of people walking along the streets, it's quite peaceful. It would be such a blessing to live by the seaside forever!

By Thinking about the life of a petty bourgeois man |

This time we booked accommodation in Donghai Fishing Village, which is full of fishing houses, with a free beach at the door and many people.

The beach was very lively at night, with bonfires in the rain, and all the young people were there. I could only sigh that it was great to be young, and there were still people making a fuss.

If you ask me what it's like to visit and stay in the "East China Sea Fishing Village," honestly, it's not great! It's heavily commercialized, lacking the authentic fishing village feel. The village boasts over 150 small farmhouse inns, each covered in colorful paintings. This is what online descriptions of the attraction call the "East China Sea Fishermen's Painting Exhibition."

By -- |

Walking in is also a unique experience. Donghai Fishing Village also has a beach, which is free, and there are fishing trips.

By Adzuki beans |

When we arrived at the island, we found that there were basically no roads for navigation. We still had to rely on maps here. If we didn’t have a map, we could just rely on our feelings to get around the island. It wasn’t that big anyway.

Arriving at Donghai Fishing Village, I can't help but marvel at the clever minds of Zhejiang people. I guess there aren't many people fishing anymore; everyone has devoted themselves to tourism, with every family owning a hotel or engaging in tourism. Small vans busily pull in busloads of guests from the dock, then take them off to various scenic spots.

Wandering in a seaside fishing village with richly painted walls, I think I first realized the beauty and charm of a peaceful life.

By Young Wife Riding a Donkey |

Around 3 p.m., I visited Donghai Fishing Village with my Suzhou sister and her group. Sights included the village wall graffiti, a small beach, Dabei Mountain Lingyin Temple, and a reef that Xiao Ma and I discovered while wandering around. Of course, all of these were free. Lingyin Temple supposedly cost 10 yuan, but we hiked up from Tianjia'ao, a 40-minute path. The temple was under renovation, so no one was collecting tickets.

By Leisurely~ |

The Donghai fishing village is very cute. The colorful abstract paintings on the walls of every house are another beautiful sight.

In this village, every household's exterior walls are adorned with striking, unique designs, many of which are the work of students from the China Academy of Art. The villagers provide the students with whitewashed walls, and the students paint the villagers beautiful designs—a true win-win!
