The Nvshan Ancient Volcano Geological Park, also known as the Nvshan Geopark, is located in Nvshanhu Town (formerly part of Shaogang Township) in northeastern Mingguang City, Anhui Province. The park's primary attractions are the ancient volcanic landscape of Nvshan, including the mosquito-free area, the Immortal Cave (also known as the Xianju Grottoes), the Yuhuan Pond, the Lake Viewing Pavilion, the Pumice Beach, the Pearl Spring, the Helao Tomb, and the Panlong Tree. The park is a geotourism park integrating sightseeing, entertainment, science education, and scientific research. In January 2004, it was approved as one of the first provincial-level geoparks by the Anhui Provincial Department of Land and Resources.
Nvshan, a dormant volcano, is one of the world's best-preserved ancient craters (one of only two in China, the other being in Heilongjiang, Northeast China). The crater measures 1.1 kilometers from east to west and 1 kilometer from north to south, with an elevation of 101.5 meters and covering 1,900 mu (approximately 1,900 acres). Nvshan is a precious gift from nature, with its unique volcanic landforms, complete structures, typical features, rich content, and integrated tectonic composition, providing a window into the Earth's structure. From an aerial view, Nvshan resembles a jade ring floating on the water, hence its nickname, Jade Ring Mountain. The mountain boasts over 20 scenic spots, including lakes and mountains, a beautiful natural environment, and rich cultural heritage. It is known as "Three villages surrounded by a body of water, and a thousand mu of lush fields in April."
