The Sanming Museum was established in the fall of 1986, with a new building expansion completed in the summer of 2004. It is located at No. 1 Liexi Street, on the west bank of the scenic Shaxi River, north of Liedong Bridge. It currently has a staff of nine, including two Party members, three associate researchers, three curators, and one intermediate technician. The museum comprises a historical relics exhibition hall, a Hakka folk customs exhibition hall, a Sanming Revolutionary Struggle History Exhibition Hall, and a comprehensive exhibition hall. It covers an area of 17,300 square meters, with a building area of nearly 5,000 square meters and an exhibition hall area of 4,500 square meters.
Since its establishment, Sanming Museum has been committed to promoting the excellent traditional culture of the motherland and carrying out patriotism and revolutionary tradition education as its main line. It has actively organized or introduced a series of exhibitions, such as "Sanming Historical Relics Exhibition", "Western Han Dynasty Jade Clothes Exhibition", "Sanming's 10th Anniversary of Reform and Opening Up Achievements Exhibition", "Nanjing Yuhua Stone Exhibition", "Badge Exhibition in Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of Mao Zedong's Birth", etc. In particular, since it was awarded the municipal patriotism education base by the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government in August 1995, it has successively held "Fujian Province 50th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China Cultural Relics Achievements (Pictures) Exhibition", "Large-scale Miniature Landscape Exhibition of Chinese Scenic Spots, World Scenic Spots, and Footprints of Great Men", "Red Rock Soul", "Tulip Flower Exhibition", "Wanshouyan Paleolithic Cultural Relics Exhibition", etc., which have achieved good social benefits. Since its official opening in 1987, it has received more than 100,000 Chinese and foreign tourists, compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and sightseeing groups; and more than 30,000 primary and secondary school students in the urban area, making the museum a veritable second classroom for young people in the city and playing the role of a patriotism education base.
In 1991, it was awarded the title of "Advanced Unit for Cultural Work in Fujian Province" by the Provincial Department of Culture and the Provincial Personnel Bureau. It has also been awarded titles such as "Civilized Unit," "Garden-style Unit," "Hygiene Unit," and "Greening Unit" by the Meilie District Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Meilie District People's Government, the Meilie District Patriotic Health Committee, and the Meilie District Greening Committee.
