Anzhen Fort, also known as "Chiguancheng," is located in Yangtou Village, Huainan Town, 110 kilometers from Yong'an City, Fujian Province. It was built by local gentry Chi Zhanrui in 1885, the 11th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty, and took fourteen years to complete. The fort covers an area of approximately 10,000 square meters, with a construction area of 5,800 square meters, making it a rare large-scale residential building in Fujian Province.
According to a video titled "Anzhen Fort Farmhouse" (search for the title) released by Yangtou Village, where Anzhen Fort is located, Luo Zhewen, head of the National Cultural Heritage Administration's Ancient Architecture Expert Group, once inscribed Anzhen Fort as a "national treasure." Huang Hanmin, president of the Fujian Architectural Design Institute, also inscribed it as "the essence of the essence of Fujian earthen fort architecture." In his monograph "Xihua District Folk Houses and Anzhen Fort," Tsinghua University Professor Chen Zhihua characterized Anzhen Fort in Yangtou Village, Huainan Town, Yong'an City, Fujian Province, as "the best-preserved large-scale wooden structure in China." Luo Zhewen, head of the National Cultural Heritage Administration's Ancient Architecture Expert Group, also inscribed it as a "national treasure."
Anzhen Fort, facing east and square in front, is a semicircular structure at the rear. Built against the mountainside, its elevation gradually rises, creating a distinct, layered structure and a majestic presence from afar. In front of the fort lies an open-air training ground capable of accommodating thousands of soldiers. Corner towers protruding five meters from either side of the fort's facade expanded its defensive angles and provided a pincer attack against enemies attacking the main gate.
