Introducing Maze

The maze tower is located beside the Zhenfeng Bridge and was formerly known as the Deji Hotel. In the early 1920s, the founders of the Nanshe Society, including Liu Yazi, Chen Qubing, Wang Dajue, Fei Gongzhi and others, gathered here to compose poems. They wrote the lines "There are three houses beside the Zhenfeng Bridge, a maze tower in a corner, the night is still long, wine doesn't make people drunk, people make themselves drunk, the scenery is pleasant and charming."

The maze tower was built during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty and still retains its original appearance. It is a wooden structure. The first floor mainly displays photos and manuscripts of the Nanshe members. The second floor has wax figures and biographies of the Nanshe members. You can enjoy the scenery outside through the windows.

It is said that Ajin, the bartender of Deji Hotel, and her mother were as beautiful as flowers. In order to avoid the White Terror, the members of Nanshe asked the proprietress to change the name of the hotel to Milou, and wrote some poems praising the mother and daughter's beauty, making people mistakenly believe that it was the mother and daughter who attracted the gathering of talented people. Later, more than a hundred poems by the members of Nanshe were compiled into "Milou Collection".
