Introducing Zeng Zhaoyuan

Zeng Zhao Garden is located in front of the Weng Mansion in the southwest corner of Changshu City, adjacent to Zeng Garden. Originally, it occupies part of the remains of "Little Wangchuan," built by Qian Dai, a Ming Dynasty censor during the Wanli reign. During the Jiaqing and Daoguang reigns of the Qing Dynasty, it was owned by Wu Junji, a local resident, and initially named Shuihu Garden, also known as Shuiwu Garden. During the Tongzhi and Guangxu reigns of the Qing Dynasty, the garden passed to Zhao Liewen of Yanghu, with the gate inscribed with "Jingpu," making it commonly known as Zhaowu Garden. At the time, Zhao was an official visiting Yizhou, and his wife, Deng Tingzhen's daughter, Deng Jiaxiang, and his brother-in-law, Deng Jiaji, assisted in the garden's management. After the Republic of China, the garden passed to Sheng Xuanhuai of Wujin. The Sheng family relocated it to Changzhou's Tianning Temple as a sub-temple, hence the name Ningjing Lianshe.

Zhao Garden's gate faces east, adjoining Jiuwan Wetland. The garden's defining feature is its waterscape, with scenic spots arranged around the pond in a staggered and strategically arranged pattern. "Nengjingju" houses the south-facing living quarters, a three-courtyard structure. A long corridor, named "Xianchun," runs westward. Within the corridor, a pavilion faces north, furnished with a stone table. A five-room scripture hall stands on the western side. Directly west, a long corridor, named "Dianchun," curves northward, following the surrounding wall, with an octagonal and a square waterside pavilion in the center. Zhao Garden draws fresh water from outside the garden into the inner pond, creating a spacious expanse complemented by winding corridors and flat hills. Yushan Mountain, located outside the garden, serves as a backdrop, drawing the mountain's scenery into the garden, allowing for a panoramic view from both sides. The corridors surrounding the garden are interspersed with lattice windows, naturally adding a touch of life to the scenery outside.
